The Optimist Blind Olympics will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2020 and are presented by the
Optimist Blind Youth Association (OBYA) representing Optimist Clubs* in the Pacific Southwest,
Pacific Southeast and Cal South districts of Optimist International. For nearly 50 years, OBYA has
provided individuals of every age and ability level with the skills and tools to overcome their
personal challenges and to lead their lives with greater self-confidence, dignity and independence,
all at no cost to their families.|
The Optimist Blind Olympics are open to youth, ages 6-22, who are blind, visually impaired or multi-disabled.
Athletes travel from across the Western United States, including Arizona, Utah and throughout Southern
California. Athletes, family members, community partners and volunteers will gather at the
Optimist's beautiful 10-acre Pacific Lodge Youth Campus in Woodland Hills to encourage these youth
to try new things and realize successes they never thought possible as they compete in adaptive
competitions such as goalball, rock climbing and the 50 yard dash.
The Optimist Blind Youth Association plays host to not only the Optimist Blind Olympics but also provides
weekend activities that include a trip to Magic Mountain, an educational outing to the Santa Monica Pier
Aquarium and an Awards Dinner where we celebrate the accomplishments of these inspiring athletes. By
incorporating additional experiences to deliver a weekend adventure, these youth are afforded the
opportunity to spend more time with other blind and visually impaired individuals, expanding their support
networks and developing new frindships that will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
We urge Optimist Clubs from throughout Optimist International as well as other wonderful service organizations to sponsor
athletes and allow them the opportunity to attend and 'Go for the Gold' and to be the champions we know they
